Tonight we have an evening of great live music from:
Hazel iris at The Bedford: Having signed to Marvellous Records, this California born, London based singer/songwriter plays Quirky, Folky IndiePop. This unique sound has already been gaining Hazel Iris attention and not just on the London circuit. In the last year Hazel has featured in a number of magazines including Music Week and Headliner Magazine and also on a number of radio stations including Radio X Frankfurt and WRFL.FM USA. She studied opera as a soprano in Germany but it was her move to London that gave birth to her far from conventional sound drawing her influences from other female artists such as Björk, Fiona Apple, Tracey Thorn and Feist.
Singer songwriter Amber Dee puts a mellow stomp on her pop style of writing. Still barely in her 20s, Amber’s self released two EPs, both available on all major digital platforms. No stranger to the live music scene, Amber’s played countless gigs throughout the UK, France, Germany and Denmark. In 2014 she graced Glastonbury Festival & Bestival with intimate acoustic sets and in 2015 was part of The Great Escape Festival in Brighton. Throughout 2015 she played venues such as The Bedford & 93 Feet East (London), Komedia (Bath) and Mr Wolfs (Bristol), as well as touring Europe and had her first live session with BBC Introducing. Amber’s next release is due later this year (2016); expect an electronic twist.
“Thoughtful and passionate songwriting” Scotland on Sunday
“Great voice…loving that” Shaun Keaveny, BBC Radio 6
“He’s very good…” Eartha Kitt
During the past decade Douglas Kay has honed his stagecraft in theatres, clubs & bars across 4 continents. In addition to tours of North America, Europe, Australasia and Africa he has played a number of notable gigs in the UK alongside the likes of Billy Bragg, KT Tunstall, Doves, Amy MacDonald and Grammy Award winner Colin Hay.
Tracks from his first three albums received airplay worldwide and led to TV appearances on GWN in Australia and ESPN in the UK. His latest album “Lift” is perhaps his most balanced work to date, a collection which blends contemporary folk, rootsy pop, haunting piano ballads and melodic harmonies.
The songs are bound together by Kay’s captivating and quirky lyrics, and by his warm, distinctive vocals. The last 18 months has seen a flurry of activity; in addition to releasing “Lift” Douglas has played numerous sellout shows at the Edinburgh Fringe, various gigs around the UK and a session with Adam Holmes for BBC Radio 2.
Murray Gardiner is a talented singer-songwriter from the southwest of England. A passionate music fan from an early age, Murray looked to his favourite records growing up for inspiration for his songwriting and playing. In 2014 Murray recorded his debut album Barebones and released it on his own label.
With a ton of instant choruses and catchy riffs and laced with the Rock, Blues and Country elements that he was raised on, Barebones showcases Murray’s intense guitar style, a voice that can reach subtle highs and aggressive lows; and his exceptional songwriting as melancholic as it is upbeat, as witty as it is heartfelt and overflowing with musical invention.
Self-produced and recorded in various locations around Murray’s home county of Gloucestershire, the songs on Barebones contain all of the things that take up Murray’s mind: broken hearts, broken amplifiers, people who don’t make any sense and Stanley Kubrick camera angles, to name a few. A cocker spaniel also makes an appearance.
Nou Enle are a fivepiece altfolk band from South London. They first started playing together in 2011, weaving together instrumental arrangements and tales of hope and heartbreak to create an eclectic mix of original tracks.
Spanning continents and ways to say goodbye, Nou Enle’s music is a distinctive combination of voice, double bass, cajon, violin and guitar, honed over the past three years in live performances around the city.
Their debut album, Seasons, is available to download and on CD from 22 May 2015. Recommended tracks are Cold Dark Sea, Seasons and So Modern.
