EMMAY

Hailing from Liphook, Hampshire, EMMAY are a sibling trio consisting of Aimée Mackenzie on electro-acoustic guitars, keyboards and lead vocals, Freya Mackenzie on acoustic violin, electro-acoustic ukulele and backing vocals and Ross Mackenzie on Cajon.

The trio have supported Nizlopi, Show of Hands, Sean Lakeman/Kathryn Roberts, Blair Dunlop, Dave McPherson (InMe), Luke Jackson, Miranda Sykes/Rex Preston, Sheelanagig, Phillip Henry/Hannah Martin and Josienne Clarke/Ben Walker.

Notable venues that EMMAY have performed at include Isle Of Wight Festival, Show of Hands Summer Festival (Abbotsbury), Cornbury Festival, Victorious Festival, Purbeck Folk Festival, Wychwood Festival, Weyfest, The Bedford (Balham), The Troubadour (Earls Court), Water Rats (Camden), Wedgewood Rooms (Portsmouth)

An outstanding BBC Introducing panel review of “Lesson Learned”, one of EMMAY’s self-penned songs, resulted in an invitation to record a session for the BBC which was broadcast live right across the South of England.

Quotes

“Songwriting and musicianship of the highest calibre and harmonising together as only siblings can. Just about the best young English acoustic band I’ve heard” – Steve Knightley (Show of Hands)

“EMMAY an impossibly young-looking folk trio of siblings, took to the stage to deliver, an enchanting set full of nagging hooks and charming harmonies, with the likes of We Once Said, Nests and a surprising cover of Ride by 21 Pilots (complete with rapping) all impressing, making a mockery of their tender years.” – Wychwood Festival

“EMMAY are undoubtedly hugely talented folk and acoustic musicians. They performed at the Southdowns Folk Festival in Bognor Regis in September 2013 and literally brought the house down. They deservedly won the Sussex Young Folk Performers Competition and then went on later to wow the audience at the Alexandra Theatre, receiving as well fantastic praise from Steve Knightley from Show of Hands who were headlining that night. Their music is fresh, original and performed with great skill and competence – they will go a long way” – Roger Nash (Festival Director) – Southdowns Folk Festival

“Hailing from Liphook is the vocal prowess, lyrical genius and sheer musicality of EMMAY” – Haslemere Fringe Festival

MACK HOFBERG WITH KATIE O’CONNOR

Born in one of the greatest music cities in the world, Mack was only 2 when his family left New York City for the country charm of the Surrey Hills. Longing to be a drummer he grew up in a music loving household, however it was also a smaller house, so around the age of 6 he had mixed feelings about the guitar his parents brought home from their travels. Growing up Mack was inspired by his mother’s love for New England hero Bruce Springsteen and teenage heartthrobs The Monkees, as well as his father’s quintessential 70s British taste in artists such as The Clash and David Bowie. After his mandatory teenage metal music phase there were two pivotal moments inspiring him to pursue a career in music; first was the confusing rhythmic and melodic sound coming from the living room one day after school as he found his sister’s then boyfriend playing his guitar, but this wasn’t your standard Wonder Wall or Kumbaya, he was playing Drifting by percussive acoustic legend Andy McKee. The dormant drummer in Mack was stirred. Secondly whilst serving as a voluntary A&R man for his mother searching for contemporary acoustic artists Mack stumbled upon then unknown Ben Howard performing Old Pine: you can still hear Mack performing this favourite of folksy crowds today. Joined by cellist Katie O’Connor he can be found playing venues in and around London through 2018 (with a first homecoming date in New York already in the bag).

Music has always been in Katie’s family; her grandparents were Gilbert and Sullivan performers, and she really can’t remember a time when music wasn’t the focus. Katie has practiced classical cello and voice since age six and started performing music live around the same time with young string quartets, orchestras and choirs, eventually performing as part of the National Youth Choir. Recently she’s recorded and played little bits with Bad News Club and is now regularly performing live along side Mack Hofberg

REEMA

Singer-songwriter Reema prepares to captivate listeners with her latest release, What The Whisper Said, out
on 8th December 2017. The single is taken from The LowSwing Sessions, a beautiful collaboration between
Reema and producer, composer and arranger Guy Sternberg as part of his analogue label initiative,
LowSwing Records.

What The Whisper Said is a ghost story about an old man who kept a dark secret that has died with his former
lover. The single begins with an enchanting yet dark, mesmerising arrangement, combined with Reema’s rich,
smooth vocal, sounding akin to the likes of Lisa Hannigan. Reema combines the traditional story telling charm
of folk with Guy’s jazz influences to create something truly haunting and majestic.

Recorded live and completely computer free over three magical sessions, Reema’s UK neo-folk approach met
Guy’s avant-garde, jazz and classical influenced arrangements. The result is incredibly moving, with Reema’s
ethereal, emotional vocals lighting the way. These special moments were captured using tape and have stayed
analogue all the way to the vinyl itself.

With What The Whisper Said, Reema hopes to continue to charm further listeners with her unique blend of
minimal, honest, celestial music.
