Tonight we have an evening of great live music from:
After training as an actor, Worth then became an autodidactic musician – teaching himself guitar, drums, bass and piano along the way. By age 16 Thom was writing music and consuming it voraciously as he made for himself a kind of curriculum of popular music. Locking himself in his room to sing along to the back-catalogues of artists like Bob Dylan, Neil Young, The Smiths, Lennon & McCartney, Bruce Springsteen, The Chili Peppers, Manic Street Preachers, Radiohead, Leonard Cohen, and Elbow, Thom developed himself as an artist to the point where he felt comfortable to launch his career.
Still only at the start, Thom has nevertheless played at the IOW, Green Man and Victorious festivals. After collaborating with engineer and producer James Welch of Masterlink Productions, Thom released his first and second extended play albums both to a packed out room at The Half Moon in Putney.
Tom Robinson BBC6 Music: “I first encountered Thom’s music by happenstance wandering across a festival field. His assured delivery, easy way with language and sheer focused writing chops immediately got my attention. Mark my words, Mr Worth is definitely One To Watch!”
Vents Magazine: “young melody maker with the sort of effortless zest for songwriting”
This three-piece alternative rock band from N. Ireland has a distinctive sound that is often anthemic in nature, but with elements of introspection and self-examination. Blending acoustic guitar with the grittier sound of electric guitar, and piano with driving drum beats, Patriot Ghosts deliver a sound that is at once a hugely melodic and rousing call to arms, yet tinged with a certain lingering melancholia.
DAVID & THE CIRCUMSTANCES
Singer-songwriter David Groeneweg writes songs about existential questions, light, darkness and the twilight in between. His lyrics explore the unclear borderline between “me” and “the circumstances”, the river and the sea, perfection and imperfection. Serene guitar- and pianosounds support his poetic message. His influences include: Radiohead, Bright Eyes and Bob Dylan.
David has been the frontman of indie rockband The Circumstances since 2008. He graduated in 2012 from the Conservatory of Rotterdam, where he studied music for four years. In 2013 he decided to record a solo album under the name David & The Circumstances. Containing acoustic guitar fingerpicking, minimalistic piano parts, ethereal backing vocals, and subtle ebow-sounds, the album has a quiet and introspective character. Performing as a solo artist, he has played various venues, like Rotown in Rotterdam and Melkweg in Amsterdam, numerous small venues and open mic’s in New York City and performed on Dutch national radio 3FM and Radio1. The music video for “Is It Not You” (the first single of the album) was recorded in New York City with designer/filmmaker Tanya Gupta.
Debut album “This Part Of Me” was released on January 29th 2015 by Rotterdam based label Elevate Records, receiving laudatory reviews in the Netherlands, Belgium and Italy.
In July 2016 David moved to London, where he has already played at dozens of venues, like Ronnie Scott’s, Battersea Arts Centre and The Bedford. He is now working on new songs for his next album.
Having moved away from electronic production based music, They Call Me Max is a project centred around piano compositions, intimate lyrical narratives and hip-hop beats. Sitting somewhere between Jazz, Classical and Hip-Hop, the project is all about movement, process and musical progression.
