Tonight we have an evening of great live music from:
Scottish Singer-Songwriter Mike Nisbet, recently release a double A side single, No Way Through and Long Way Down, which sees the Scotsman return to form, conjuring sounds inspired by love, loss, depression, fear, and desire. All themes that infiltrate the lyrical world Nisbet creates inside beautiful sonic landscapes.
Like many of Nisbet’s peers, Mike has spent most of his 20’s travelling, performing, getting by with stints in Berlin, Bristol, Glasgow & London, working in kitchens, cafes, periodically on the dole, while mining music and using creativity as a means of connection and escape. A means to tell stories, of the struggles and strife.
Sonically conjuring ghosts of those gone before, Dylan, Cave, Guthrie, Mitchell, Mike Nisbet stands securely as a songwriter who has studied and learned from the masters. Now telling his own story, in his own voice, his own language, is creating a unique space and story. Like many Scotsmen before him, mike has spent time in bars across Europe, talking till the small hours, listen to tall tales in the Nuremberg, joining the chorus in The Scottish Highland folk clubs, and drinking the bars dry in The Netherlands.
In these darkened rooms is where the characters, the tales, the victories and failures of mike Nisbet’s songs live. You stay till closing time, spend you last fist full of change on a drink for you and love, then walk the long road home alone.
Kerry Goodhind has always had a passion and flair for musical performance since her hands graced the keys of her first piano at the tender age of 5. She was heavily encouraged by her parents to listen to all kinds of music resulting in the development of her very eclectic ear. At 14, Kerry gained a full scholarship to attend Trinity College of Music (then located at Bond Street, London). It was here through her classical singing and piano studies that Kerry experimented with styles finding her true powerful singing voice. With rich undertones but an underlying powerful resonance, Kerry’s vocal and song writing ability attack a listener’s emotions, finding a connection that leaves a mesmerising mark. It comes as no surprise then that Kerry’s music has been influenced by artists such as Dusty Springfield, Stevie Nicks, Etta James, Barbara Streisand, Enya, Florence and the Machine and London Grammar to name a few.
Country/Pop crossover artist Jess Thristan began creating her debut album in 2014 at the age of 18, working with the likes of Steve Crisanthou (Corinne Bailey-Rae, Eliza Dolittle) and Jonny Wright (Foxes, Becky Hill). She released her debut single “Little Bird” in October 2014 on ‘Better Than Cake Records’ gaining fantastic support from Clare Balding at BBC Radio 2. Clare invited Jess to perform a live session on her Sunday morning radio show in October 2014 and again following the release of her single ‘No Romeo’ in September 2016. Jess went on to release her debut album “This Is Home” in September 2018 and has now begun work on her second album.
Josh Gleaves, a 16-year-old Singer/Songwriter, currently studying at BRIT School, who is already a regular artist on the London gig scene. He was recently crowned the Mayor of London’s Gigs Champion 2017. Returning from his recent tour of Nashville USA, he brings home a Country vibe and a bigger love for music.
