Tonight we have an evening of great live music from:
I was in a band, playing to 15,000 people with artists like as Girls Aloud, Jamelia and Blue, when I realised it wasn’t for me. I needed to do it my way, my words, my melody and my music. This was the moment I embarked on my path, started to hone my craft and started believing that I had a voice that would be listened to.
“Belief is a beautiful armor…But makes for the heaviest sword” – John Mayer
I’ve always been heavily surrounded by music, my older sister being the greatest influence. Audition after audition, until I got a break in a 5 piece band called DeVoteD. I worked with major record labels and producers like Ignorants (Craig David, Britney Spears), appearing on BBC2, Trouble TV and magazines and papers like The Evening Standard, I learnt a lot about the industry, but not about my musical identity. Performing in front of 15,000 people wasn’t enough, they weren’t my words. So I left the band to pursue my own path. I worked independently with some other producers (Stereophonics) and for the first time felt and saw that “I was heading in the right direction” – India Arie.
“Sing your greatest song. And you’ll keep, going, going on” – Donny Hathaway
Now composing my own music through the piano and guitar and doing gigs around London, I am finally doing it my way, “I had to go there to come back” – Stereophonics. Learning from the past and inventing my future, I am honest and raw in what I have to say like some of my idols; Jeff Buckley, Donny Hathaway, Stevie Wonder. What I feel is what I sing and it’s not about where I’m headed, it’s about living in the now.
Hailing from South East London, this emerging songwriter and singer exhibits a rarity in her voice. Fusing jazz with a melancholy tone, her melodies and lyrics combined hooks you in immediately.
London based singer/songwriter Milly is in the midst of creating her debut EP. Fusing electronic sounds and ethereal melodies with pulsing drums and spacey guitars. Milly will be performing acoustic versions of these songs at the Bedford and will be releasing her EP later in the year.
Hadrien is a 19 year old, Franco-American artist currently based in London, UK. He is a dedicated musician who has a very interesting, charismatic and idiosyncratic voice. He excels both as an entertainer and as a musician, and his ambient songs create a mellow, feel-good atmosphere which has captivated London’s music scene. As a result of his talent Hadrien has gained influence on social media with over 12,000 Instagram followers.
The Nectars are like the first time you have sex. It’s fast, it’s loud, it’s over too soon, and you’re left desperately wanting more. Also, the lead singer is an alien.
There is only one word that can explain The Nectars: psychedelic-sex-punk. They weave inspiration from bands like Weezer, The Pixies, Arcade Fire, The Killers, Mac DeMarco, Pavement and Tame Impala into their own brand of Indie Punk–or as they call it “alternative jizz-jazz/cat-trap fusion.”
The band was founded in early 2017 by long-time friends and Basic Vacation co-collaborators Mikey “Mad Dog” Montalbano (drums) and Jon Paul (bass, keys, backing vocals). They enlisted friend and local guitarist, Mike Baron, plus vocalist and childhood band member with Mad Dog, Jessica Kenny. Still under a year since inception, the band has begged, stealed and borrowed studio time to record 12 tracks, make three videos and do their own photo shoot. Pioneers of a self obsessed DIY attitude, they even turned down an early record deal so they could release their own 9 track debut, Sci-Fi Television.
The record blasts off on May 25th with rockets, space ships and a heavy piece of alien vinyl.
