Tonight we have an evening of great live music from:
Shaun O’Reilly might be familiar to progressive rock music fans as a half of “War Elephant”, a pair of musicians who recorded challenging, creative music and toured the UK and Ireland extensively. However, Shaun’s fondness for blues, folk and Americana led him to jump on the opportunity to pursue a solo career and express his passion for roots music and contemporary singer-songwriting. Shaun’s vivid blend of storytelling echoes the work of beat authors such as Charles Bukowski, William S. Burroughs and more modern authors such as Irvine Welsh. His words are poignant and poetic, yet down to earth and extremely easy to relate to. His recent EP, “Vultures & Wine” is a bittersweet collection of tunes that blur the lines between the melancholic mellowness of Elliott Smith and the blues bark of artists like Captain Beefheart.
We are Lostboy, a modern folk duo. Proud Northerners and old school friends of 10 years, We recently formed in 2016 Greenwich, London. Already we are house favourites at Camden’s legendary folk club ‘Green Note’ and now we are regulars on the London club circuit and UK festivals. In early 2017, Lostboy recorded their self titled EP which was released on July 19th.
A singer-songwriter from Edinburgh, Jonny draws his influences from artists such as Paolo Nutini, Ryan Adams and Ben Howard. Previously he has been main support for Nina Nesbitt as well as supporting touring acts from the States.
He has recorded and composed a song for the end credits of a Bollywood film, and will be returning to Bollywood next year to perform in a new film. Jonny wrote 3 songs for a short film Love Life Loss, John Campbell was the Director on the shoot as well as on his previous video for My Love is Like a Red Red Rose.
Shakira Alleyne is a 22 year old songwriter from North London. She is self taught with the guitar and piano and has been writing and performing songs since she was 18.
Her sound has a primarily ambient feel with elements of rap and there is a colourful and experimental edge to her debut EP. For inspiration in her songs, She tends to draw upon life experiences and uses her interest in creative writing to turn this into relatable content. There are several artists who have had an influence on her sound including Lucy Rose, Lapsley, Mac Miller and James Blake.
Since uploading her EP ‘Remember Freedom?’ She has been working on new material and establishing herself as an artist having just been interviewed on BBC three counties radio as a BBC Introducing guest.
