8.30pm - TAI

At 23 and armed only with his trusty guitar, Tainui busked his way from Aukland, New Zealand to London, before catching the industries attention. Channeling the spirit of Jimi Hendrix with songwriting chops comparable to Ben Harper and a deep love of hip-hop underpinning it all, this young artist is one to watch.

9pm - LEIKA

Local heroes LEIKA return to the Bedford – as part of their ‘See it, Say it, S-Boooom!’ tour of England’s fine south – to blow you away and make you wanna kick over your table, get up and dance like no one’s watching.

LEIKA’s energetic style is best described as post punk with dashes of ska, electro and indie which makes for something a lot more interesting and catchy than anything else currently out there. Most flattering comparisons to proper bands include Talking Heads, The Clash and Squeeze. If that doesn’t intrigue you, what the hell are you doing reading this?

Credits include several features on BBC radio, ITV’s This Morning show and some proper festivals inc. the Isle of Wight. We are hoping to build on this and see where our music takes us.

Come along (entry is FREE) and have the musical night of your life that will leave you wondering why on earth you had never heard of this band until now?

Btw – all of the above is correct at the time of printing but please don’t actually kick over the table as we won’t be invited back if you do.

10pm - STONE SHIVA

Since returning from a 17-year residence in Germany local legend Jason Falloon has, apart from a few fairly low-key solo gigs, concentrated on setting up and running his studio near Cranleigh for the last 4 years. A band hadn’t really been on the radar. So, it’s been a long time coming……

Keeping things very close to his chest, all we know is that they are a rock (Stone?) 3 piece that will concentrate on original material. So, outside of his duties as Roger Taylor of Queen’s go to guitarist for his solo work, and sharing the stage with such musical luminaries as Ronnie Wood, Nick Mason and Mike Rutherford, Jason, who let’s not forget has his musical roots and heritage in Horsham itself, has written new material and revisited some older originals and rearranged them to suit this exciting new band.
Completing the trio is the very capable drummer from hard R n B stalwarts Voodoo Sheiks John Coombes and none other than Jason’s brother Bob on bass.
John cut his teeth hitting the skins for local bands Rhythm Method and Spittin’ Feathers. Following the demise of the Feathers a new band was formed from their ashes, with a harder R n B sound in the vein of Dr Feelgood and Nine Below Zero. Once again featuring original songs, the Voodoo Sheiks cut a formidable swathe through the southern blues scene, cutting 2 albums and playing such esteemed venues as the 100 Club and Camden Underworld.
Bob meanwhile, is an academic and alumni of the prestigious Leeds College of Music who will add a whole new dimension to the Stone Shiva sound. During his time at Leeds he became an accomplished classical and jazz guitarist. After graduation Bob moved to France and cut his teeth in the Parisienne Jazz and Blues clubs. On returning to the UK Bob picked up the bass and joined Jason and Papa Falloon, forming the legendary folk, blues and country phenomenon The Falloons. He also demonstrated formidable rock bass chops in Jason’s power trio Renegade. Following Papa’s “retirement” and Jason’s departure to Germany, Bob has concentrated on teaching, not only at home but also as a well respected tutor at The Windlesham School in Washington. However, it seems you can’t keep an ol’ renegade down (see what I did there!), and he’ll be swinging that bass again, bringing stones to the Stone!
Stone Shiva, miss them at your peril.
