8:00pm NICKY PHILLIPS

“There is something mythical that borders on ethereal in the music that Nicky Phillips creates which places her amongst the highest calibre of indie talent.” – Only a Northern One

Born and bred in London, Nicky Phillips felt the pull to move north, writing and sharing her open-hearted songs through intimate performances across North West England. Nicky has spent many years performing live, but 2020 had other plans. As a result, Nicky started sharing her music on Instagram and soon after connected with producer Joel Schwartz to begin her recording career. Nicky released her self-titled EP in August 2021, featuring her debut single ‘Echo’ which was released in April 2021. ‘Home’, from the EP, was a semi-finalist in the 2021 UK Songwriting Competition and has been featured on Indie Folk Central’s first ‘Women of Indie Folk’ compilation, and ‘The Dark’ was recently featured on BBC Music Introducing.

8:30pm THE MOLOTOVS

Teenage Power Pop/Rock trio The Molotovs are quickly gaining a reputation for making some serious noise with an authentic performance that leaves nothing in the dressing room. From busking London streets in 2020 to ending 2021 on a high supporting The Libertines on their UK tour, The Molotovs are regularly seen strutting their stuff on the London and beyond gig scene. A romp to victory at The Basement Door’s 2022 Battle of the Bands at Twickenham Exchange has seen The Molotovs gain acts at London festivals this summer, along with the Happy Days and Cornbury Music Festival. Expect clean, sharp originals that stand up effortlessly against cool, iconic covers delivered with energy and swagger. Championed by Paul Weller’s sister Nicky on BBC Sounds as ‘proper musicians getting out there’ The Molotovs are definitely going places and are a band to keep an eye out for.

9:30pm BENJAMIN DAVID

Benjamin David is a singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist from London, UK. He draws upon such diverse influences as Prince, David Bowie, Kendrick Lamar, and Gojira.  David was a quiet kid who used to pace around the garden inventing fantasy worlds and characters. He started writing songs at age 11, developing a story-telling lyric style. At 16 he attended The Brit School where he discovered a love for genre-mashing and began crafting his stage persona, a mysterious narrator who would tell the stories of the characters in his songs.

His unreleased debut album is a collaboration with Grammy Award-winning producer Kipper. David, following the death of his father and amidst global political changes, tries to capture a snapshot of what it means to be young in a world full of uncertainty. The record encapsulates David’s ‘hard soul’ live sound, a sound he came up with when he accidentally blasted D’Angelo and Rage Against The Machine at the same time over two different sound systems.
