8:00pm JAMIE RAFFERTY

Jamie is a 22-year-old singer/songwriter from Scotland. He grew up – and still lives – in an ancient mining village nestled in the countryside called Croy, which having once attracted Irish immigrants lies some 30 minutes away from the city lights of Glasgow in the west and Edinburgh in the east.  Its railway line with four arches pivots between these 2 major cities, offering a gateway to the wilder and increasingly awe-inspiring landscapes of Northern Scotland.

Raised in this small and close knit community, Jamie grew up in the shadow of Croy Hill which rises above a vast stone Quarry. Labouring by day, he learned to play many instruments in his spare time, driven by the desire to express the music coursing through his blood.
The first instrument he learned was the drums at an early age, whilst simultaneously listening to the bygone era of the local brass band known as the Croy Silver Band – subsequently picking up the piano, bass, electric and acoustic guitars.

Wishing he had experienced the classic songwriting era of Laurel Canyon, which sits just above Santa Monica in L.A. he is a mature and reflective soul on young shoulders. Credibly delivering both soaring guitar anthems and intimate ballads, Jamie writes about what he knows – stories, memories passed down, and the heartfelt ever-changing moods and questions about love, life and hope. Jamie’s appearance at The Bedford will be a solo acoustic set.

8:30pm PRESIDENT STREET

Hailing from Melbourne, Australia, Ruby and Pete are PRESIDENT STREET. The pop fusion duo taking the UK by storm.

On the back of three Top 10 hits in the UK MusicWeek Commercial Pop Club Chart and not inconsiderable success on UK radio, President Street’s two headline UK tours in 2019 were very low-key acoustic setups with just Ruby singing and Pete and one other guitarist. Now they are moving things up a level with a fuller sound for the prestigious opening-act slot on the huge UK tour for musical legend Andrew Roachford MBE for which they have an eclectic roster of songs lined up.
The coming together of Pete and Ruby is the story of a million bands worldwide through the ages: wanted ads – but in this case through a creative arts online audition and casting platform. Rather than put an ad looking for a singer/collaborator, Pete thought he’d actually go through the profiles placed by singers/collaborators. And Ruby’s stood out. ‘Everyone else’s profiles had the same sort of professional head-shots,’ says Pete, ‘whereas Ruby’s was a picture of her on holiday. That just seemed really natural and confident to me. And while everyone else included professional recordings done in studios, Ruby’s was just her singing acapella into her iPhone in her bathroom.’

The duo are dubbed by numerous music curators as “the ones to watch” for 2021, PRESIDENT STREET have their sights set for a big end to 2021 and beyond!
