MATEEN

Flashback to 9 years old, when he wrote his first song. At 12, he took his first steps onto the stage. 16, he wrote and featured on a friends dance track. At 18, being scared of the consequences of being authentic, he left his music behind and decided to follow a career that he “could fit into”, and be a Barrister. At 21, he left his law degree due to mental health and took a job in a clothes shop. After leaving his position and years of inauthenticity, and a big push from his mum, he followed his “destiny” and started busking. Now, only 5 short months after his first steps back towards himself, he is taking the stage here at Iconic Bedford Pub, just over a month before his 23rd Birthday. Mateen shares, “The purpose of my music is to make people feel. In a world of suppressed emotions and experiences, I intend a light to go on inside when people hear my song, my voice, my music… and for it to never to go out.”

 EMILIO

Vocal-driven, raw and soulful, emerging London-based artist Emilios is one to watch. Born in Greece, the singer-songwriter’s first memories are of listening to the sounds of Bouzoukis and Lyras with his Greek father, inspiring his appreciation for Byzantine vibrations. When his family moved to the North East of England, his British mother introduced him to the sweet sounds of Sting, Stevie Wonder and Michael McDonald which she’d blast like there was no tomorrow. His nurtured exposure to music, multi-cultural heritage and relentless passion for the Greats have shaped an appetite for pure melody and lyrics that reveal the soul.
