8:30pm CLARA MOSCHETTA

Clara Moschetta is a singer and songwriter from Paris currently based in London. Empowered by a Parisian spirit of revolution, Clara’s music explores complex themes including politics, sexual assault and suicide, echoing early Fiona Apple and Florence Welch.

Her alternative style of pop is heavily influenced by jazz, fused with contemporary electronica. Clara also expresses a level of theatrical storytelling in her music that often verges on cabaret. This no doubt stems from the solace she found in musical theatre as a young child. Having moved between several countries, the stage became her anchor each time, offering an emotional outlet for the unfamiliar settings she found herself in.

Clara’s debut single, ‘Heavy Shoulders’, explores the complex and often strained relationship between love and mental health. Tom Robinson on Radio 6 Music said: “if Steve Reich had been born half a century later, as a female vocalist, her song “Heavy Shoulders” is the kind of noise he might well have made”.

Each track she has released since has received high praise, with particular emphasis on her songwriting, which has been likened to Kate Nash and Adele.

Clara’s prowess in tackling politics through her music, is plain to see in ‘The B.S.’ (an abbreviation of ‘The Brexit Song’ and an intentional double entendre). The song is a rally cry, written after a xenophobic experience she suffered in a McDonald’s. The energy of the song is visceral, reaching its climax in an outro that becomes indistinguishable from a protest chant.

Her latest release ‘Cheekbones’ diverges from her usual subject matters. It is instead Clara’s admission about ignoring her own warnings in relationships and falling subject to her weakness for a chiselled set of cheekbones. The song echoes a leading performance in a smoky Parisian cabaret; powerful, dramatic and intoxicating.

9:30pm STEF TAYLOR

Hailing from the border of South East London in the depths of Lewisham, growing up on the borders of Kent Stef Taylor began writing songs at the start of lockdown. Without being shut off from the outside world, he admits; he would never have started to release his own music.

Earning his psychology degree, Stef currently works as a primary school teacher. His true passion, alongside working with young minds, has always lied in music.

Stef’s blend of soulful pop derives from a background of his eclectic taste, from The Beatles to Buddy Holly to Carole King. The classic approach to Stef’s songwriting is plain to hear, and these prolific artisans of the craft have clearly had an influence upon his works. The music centres around Taylors versatile vocals, which boast a range likened to the rich baritone vocals of Sam Fender to the supple falsetto of Justin Vernon.

Having released four singles to date, Stef has much new music to come throughout 2021 set to take him right through the summer. He will take these songs on the road with him to perform to all those who will listen. It’s going to be his breakout year and he is ready to take it by the horns.
