9:00pm SOLA

Sola is the alternative pop/R&B alter ego of California native Megan Sola-Guinto. Since relocating to the UK in 2014, Sola has worked with Sir Paul McCartney and Earth, Wind & Fire musical director Mo Pleasure, along with being named among the Top 20 Artists of 2017 by Liverpool International Music Festival. The following year, she emerged victorious from over 500 entrants to become the winner of War Child’s ‘Songs Of War’ competition, which included a panel of industry professionals including Joss Stone, Jeremy Vine, and BBC Head of Sync Nicky Bignell. Her self-released single, “Closure” was featured as a Producer’s Pick on BBC Introducing, and the follow-up track “self-destructing” was chosen for Radio 1’s “Drive Home From Glastonbury” playlist, curated by Arlo Parks. She was also selected for Brighter Sound’s Mentoring Programme and is currently being mentored by winner of Gilles Peterson’s Worldwide Award for Best Newcomer, Tawiah. Her new single, “Embers”, is a collaboration with multi-GRAMMY nominee and 2021 BRIT Award winning producer, Boom Dice. Also an avid podcaster, Sola produces and co-hosts the official podcast for Reddit’s largest pop music community, Popheads. A captivating live performer, Sola has supported the likes of Jack Savoretti, Javeon, and Lucy Spraggan and recently performed on the Tomorrow Stage at the This Is Tomorrow festival. Combining the electronic sounds of Banks and UPSAHL with the emotional conviction of JoJo and SZA, she is certainly an artist to watch.

9:45pm DAN OWEN

In terms of rock’n’roll tales, Dan Owen has had a head start on most musicians his age, earning his success, old-fashioned way. He started out playing every pub that would have him and honed his craft with old bluesmen who gave him his own nickname. He has gone from performing for politicians at Westminster to partying in Nashville with Willie Nelson. This Shropshire boy has a wealth of stories to share.

Despite discovering that he could silence a room by singing blues covers at the age of 15, Dan thought he had found his calling in carpentry when he took an apprenticeship and came top of the class. He was offered a placement with the world-famous guitar maker Patrick Eggle but, just before taking it up, he suffered an injury in the workshop that all but blinded him in one eye.

Inspired by his worldly journey, on his debut album Stay Awake With Me, you’ll hear tales of his friends getting caught up in drugs (the majestic, strings-soaked Icarus), of domestic abuse (the stately, spine-tingling Made to Love You) and of the traumatic aftermath of Dan’s eye injury (the menacing blues-rocker Hideaway). The beautiful title track is an ode to Dan’s beloved grandfather, who passed away, and is written from the point of view of his nan. Most of the album was recorded at RAK Studios with MyRiot (London Grammar, Halsey, Birdy).

All of it is as honest and soulful as it is built for being howled back in festival fields and – pints of Real Ale aloft.
